Peaceful Rock Painting at Yardley Friends is a Smashing Success

Yardley Friends are always looking for ways to bring together people of all ages and we also are doing a lot to reach out to the community around us.

The idea was to invite people to paint rocks!

When you start with a new idea, you never know what will transpire. Rock painting is a thing!  People paint rocks and place them in the woods, by the river or canal.  Just anywhere someone will find it and pick it up or just pause to observe it.  It’s a gesture of friendship!  We picked May 31.

We spread the word and opened our doors, not knowing who would show up. As soon as the doors opened, people started piling in.  Whole families, children, parents, grandparents, people on their own.  A few were from Yardley Meeting or another Meeting.  Many, we had never seen before.

The word spread.  Some asked what the building we were in was, and exactly what was a Quaker Meeting.  Others painted and talked and made new friends.

After a few hours, we figured it was time to clean up and go home.  Wrong!  A group of young adults wandered in.  We needed more rocks.  The creek bordering our property had plenty.  You could see by the paintings they made that they were experienced in rock painting.

This is something Yardley Friends Meeting plans to do again!
