Remembering Elsie Wright
Elsie Mae Warner Wright
November 7, 1928 - January 5, 2026
On January 5, 2026, Makefield Elsie Mae Warner Wright went to join the Lord and her predeceased loved ones. Elise was 97 years old and lived a full life. She was the daughter of Caroline Buckman Warner and William Warner. She is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elsie graduated from Pennsylvania School of Horticulture for Women, in Amber, PA was an Associate’s degree in horticulture. This prepared her well for her love of gardening and being the wife of a farmer at Breezyvale Farm.
Elsie was married to the love of her life, Herbert Edward Wright who died in 2001. Asked just a couple days before she died, if that seemed like a long time, she said yes, but it also feels like yesterday. She missed him the rest of her days. They had a great partnership. With their young family, vacations were spent camping, hauling a pop-up camper behind the car. They enjoyed traveling together in their later years of marriage, visiting many states. They would sometimes travel with other couples. They especially enjoyed Hawaii and Alaska. Their final vacation together was a driving trip from Pennsylvania to Alaska.
While Elsie did not have a job for pay, she was always busy working. In the summer she was maintaining the yard area of the farm, planting and maintaining multiple flower beds, mowing, and harvesting vegetables and fruit. She would freeze and can vegetables and fruit. She was also an active crafter, with many different ones such as sewing, embroidery, needlepoint, cut glass, and creating miniature shadow Edgewood boxes. Elsie was an active volunteer and served in many leadership positions. She was active in Edgewood Grange for most of her life. Elsie was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of Makefield Monthly Meeting, continuing to serve on committees until her last days. Her most recent was on the Care and Concern Committee. She served on the board of directors at different times for Friends Home, Friends Village and Chandler Hall all in Newtown. For Chandler Hall she was on the founding board of directors before the build started, and served many years in various roles, until she moved onto the Chandler Hall Auxiliary. She was an active member until her death. Elsie’s last 2 years were spent at The Meadows in Lawrenceville, NJ. She was the patient advocate representative for her house and fondly called the “boss” by most of the staff.
She is survived by her children, David (Donna) Wright, Nancy (Rick) Sooy, Amy (David) Raduzycki and Douglas (Alice) Wright. She was blessed with 9 grandchildren: Garrett (Inga), Robert, Kevin (Tara), Sean, Emily (Andrew), William, Mary (Thad) Lillian (Ryan), and Sarah. She loved them each dearly. Later in life she was further blessed to become a great-grandmother to Jase, Aurora, Lukas, Elsie and Daphne. She loved any moment she got to share with them and always wanted to “squeeze” them in a hug. She is also survived by two foster sons she and Herb cared for early in their marriage, Ted and Ron.
Her memorial and celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Makefield Meeting House, 877 Dolington Rd, Newtown, PA 18940. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Makefield Monthly Meeting, same address as above.
