As you drive by Bristol Meeting on Market Street in historic Bristol Borough, you can’t help but notice the huge sycamore tree adjacent to the meetinghouse. Fondly known as the Penn sycamore, the tree has been there almost as long as the meetinghouse, and on April 6th, Bristol Friends decided it was time to give it a birthday party!

As Bucks Quarter Coordinator, I am charged with visiting each of the fourteen meetings in the Quarter on a regular basis. At my most recent visit to Lehigh Valley Monthly Meeting – the northernmost meeting in the Quarter – I heard and experienced why Friends there have cause celebrate.

Recently, Friends at Fallsington Meeting were approached by someone who wanted to sweep their historic property with a metal detector, to see if he could unearth any interesting artifacts.

Beloved Newtown Friend, Nancy Strong, passed away on January 10, 2024 at her home at Pennswood Village. Her memorial service, which was held on March 16, was filled with loving remembrances from all of those she touched throughout her wonderful life.

Newtown Meeting burial ground liaisons Wendy Kane and Sharon Hulihan presented a program at Adult First Day School entitled Digging Into the Graveyard, giving the history and stories of some of the Friends buried in their graveyard.

Plumstead Friends Meeting recently received a generous donation from the Hilltown Historical Society. It is a book of letters, published in 1844, written by a Plumstead minister, Martha Brown Smith

Yardley Friends Meeting member Linda Jacobs Snyder has self-published a book called She Chef, a memoir about her forty years as a female chef in a male-dominated food industry.

When Newtown Meeting decided to partner with Right Sharing of World Resources on the Ramanathpuram Project in India’s state of Tamil Nadu, members Jennifer and Tony Wolf were thrilled because they had already planned a three-week trip to India in January 2024.

One of the key takeaways from the January PYM Governance and Stewardship Thread Gathering on Property and Burial Grounds was that Friends would like a way to connect with each other as issues arise in their meetings. Bristol Meeting’s new clerk, Alisa Myles, arrived with lots of ideas and enthusiasm. Passionate about refugee resettlement, her first outreach project involves teaching Unaccompanied Refugee Minors (URM) how to cook.

Last year, as meetinghouses re-opened, Friends began experimenting with a hybrid format and Bucks Quarter did as well. But the question arose about what to do when the Quarterly Meeting host has neither the technology nor the tech support for a hybrid meeting?

On a beautiful autumn afternoon, Newtown Monthly Meeting hosted an Interfaith Service attended by approximately 70 people from almost 20 different denominations.

Bucks Quarter Friends gathered with other PYM Quakers for Fall Continuing Sessions at the historic Arch Street Meetinghouse on November 11.

The rain held off, allowing Yardley Friends to have a successful 67th Annual Flea Market on September 9th.
