April at Bristol Friends Meeting
April was a busy month for Bristol Friends Meeting. Here's a recap:
Burial Ground Work Party
Friends were glad to welcome students from George School, who joined us in tending the burial ground with care and good spirit. We shared lunch, conversation, and some French as they prepare for their service trip to France in 2027. Friends are grateful for their help and the fellowship we enjoyed together.
Green Day
We had a wonderful Green Day Celebration last Sunday celebrating Earth Day, Arbor day, and our tree's 351st birthday (give or take). Shout outs to all the BFM Friends who helped make the day so enjoyable and also to Donna McCloskey and the Bristol Borough Garden Club, the local boy scouts, the poster contest winners from St. Mark's and Bristol Borough public schools, Jim MacNair for speaking about the benefits of trees, Bristol Borough Council for issuing a proclamation about the importance of trees and Bakery Bethlehem an outstanding tree cake.
Anti-Fascist Book Club
Friends gathered for our first session and were led into a rich and searching discussion of One Day Everyone Will Have Been Against This by Omar El Akkad. The conversation was meaningful and tender, and Friends felt the power of the text; many were led to recommend it widely.
The next selection has been chosen: How We Win by George Lakey. Friends will gather on May 28 at 7 pm and look forward to continuing in this shared inquiry.
Bristol Friends continue to meet on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 11:00 am; all are welcome to join them.
