Bucks Quarter May Quarterly Meeting

  • Southampton Friends Meeting 710 Gravel Hill Road Southampton, PA, 18966 United States (map)

Bucks Quarter Friends, under the care of Southampton Friends Meeting, will be gathering for a day of informative programming, worship, fellowship and business.

This will be a hybrid gathering; click here for the zoom link.

Friends should arrive between 9:30 and 10:00 for coffee, tea, refreshments and fellowship.

At 10:00 am Friends will have a panel discussion entitled Racial Justice:  Persistence and Direction.

George Floyd’s murder almost 4 years ago, coming as the pandemic was laying bare implicit racism in the culture, sparked a vibrant public conversation about how black lives needed to matter before all lives could.  Quakers in our Quarter responded with a number of public “vigils.” The vigil at Southampton Friends Meeting has persisted, but has struggled with discerning the direction of the Meeting’s corporate action to promote racial justice.  Join us in delving into the process of sustaining efforts to combat racial injustice despite the natural tendency to move on to more “pressing” concerns.  Kevin Young of the Bucks County Anti Racism Coalition will speak briefly on the topic of the program, followed by a panel of vigil participants who will speak briefly to their motivation for sticking with the vigil and benefits derived from long term attendance.

There will be a children’s program.

Meeting for Worship will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm with childcare available.

Please bring a brown bag lunch for lunch; desserts and drinks will be provided by Southampton Friends. The day will conclude with Meeting for Worship With Attention to Business. We will hear annual reports from Bristol, Buckingham, Fallsington and Lehigh Valley meetings, as well as an annual report of the Quarter Clerk and the Oversight Committee. Advance documents and the minutes from the February Quarterly Meeting will be available for review before the meeting.
