10:00–11:00 am Program: John Woolman Visits Bucks Quarterly Meeting
Led by the Light within, and guided by God’s eternal truth, Quaker John Woolman, one of thirteen children born to Samuel and Elizabeth (Hudson Burr) Woolman in Rancocas, New Jersey, dedicated his entire adult life to the abolition of slavery and all other forms of social evil and injustice. Guided by his wholehearted obedience to God and his love for his fellow man and God’s creation, he cautioned people to consider their spiritual destiny and the future of mankind if they continued to accept and participate in enslavement, oppression of the poor, inequality, wasteful consumption, cruelty to animals and war. His contribution to the abolishment of enslavement and to the spiritual health of society are immeasurable – he was truly one of God’s Chosen Disciples. The presentation is designed to let John Woolman speak.
Charles Bruder, Director of The John Woolman Memorial, will provide the voice for John Woolman. Charles is a member of and Co-clerk of Westfield Monthly Meeting in Cinnaminson, New Jersey and Director-in-Residence of the John Woolman Memorial Association. He has been Director of the Woolman Memorial for the past eight years and served as a trustee and clerk of the Memorial for many years prior to becoming its director. As a member of Westfield Meeting he has served as Co-clerk of the Meeting, Clerk of Peace and Social Concerns and has served on the Westfield Friends School Committee. He is a retired rare and used books bookseller, a graduate of Rutgers University.
