10:00 am Unforgotten: Remembering Our Quaker Influencers: Some Friends are so famous they will never be forgotten - Edward Hicks comes to mind. Others were quiet influencers whose impact continues, and unbeknownst to you, may have affected your life even though you may not know their names. This presentation will focus on these quiet influencers, honoring their lives, work, and the impact they had on Newtown Meeting and beyond.

Newtown Friends members Sharon Hulihan and Wendy Kane, affectionately known as the “Graveyard Girls,” will introduce you to nine Friends; Friends who were war tax resisters, community organizers, peacemakers, conscientious objectors, veterans, mentors, artists, authors, educators and housing integration pioneers. Every one inspirational, every one unforgettable; their impact reaching far beyond one Meeting.

After the presentation, you will be invited to visit the gravesites of each of the Friends they featured. Wendy and Sharon believe part of their work as burial ground liaisons is to connect the stories of the lives of the people buried in the graveyard with their current membership; they hope to inspire you to do the same with your meeting’s burial ground.

10:00 am Children’s Scavenger Hunt: We are excited to have a great children’s program planned! While the adults are learning about unforgettable Friends, the kids will participate in a fun scavenger hunt in our graveyard! Who will be able to find the headstone with the train on it? How about the one with the penguin? Who can count all of the American flags? This activity will be fun for all ages!
