In terms of religion, the Gospel of Thomas may have been the most important find of the twentieth century. Upon discovery, it was promptly deemed to pose “grave danger” to the Church. Even neophytes will find a measure of intrigue in that reaction. The Gospel is a modest document written in Coptic. It consists of 114 verses, many matching the Synoptic Gospels word-for-word. What can be so dangerous about that? The Gospel of Thomas offers excitement and great spiritual potential for Friends. It not only rekindles the power early Friends found in the Spirit, but in terms of outreach, it enhances the message we can bring to the world.
A couple of years ago, Downingtown Meeting's Bible Study group tackled the Gospel of Thomas. The Gospel of Thomas is unlike the synoptic gospels and sometimes cryptic. Downingtown Friend, Alex Miller has created a Power Point presentation to reveal the nuggets and stimulate interest in this singular tract. There have been enthusiastic receptions from several Quaker audiences, including an Annual Sessions workshop in 2017.
Bucks Quarter invites you to a presentation and discussion led by Alex Miller of Downingtown Meeting on October 28th, 12:30PM in the Buckingham meetinghouse.
Join Friends for worship at 10:30 with 15 minutes of singing at 10:15. A brief time for refreshment and fellowship will follow worship before the program
