Sunday - March 25 - Marcelle Martin will speak the Newtown Friends meetinghouse.

219 Court Street, Newtown PA

Opening to the Presence
Quakers believe that the Spirit of God is always present, within and among us (and within everybody). Opening to that Presence is key to the Quaker faith. Marcelle Martin will speak about spiritual practices that help us become aware of the divine Presence, as well as ways that Quakers listen to the Spirit in themselves and others. She will talk about some practices that Friends have found helpful in discerning what is from the Spirit and what has a different source. She will help us consider how we encounter and open to the Presence in daily life, in meeting for worship, in vocal ministry, and in responding to leadings.

Marcelle Martin, a member of Swarthmore Meeting, is the author of Our Life is Love: the Quaker Spiritual Journey. For over twenty years, she has been leading workshops at retreat centers and Quaker meetings. She was the resident Quaker Studies teacher at Pendle Hill for four years, and currently is the core teacher for the Nurturing Worship, Faith & Faithfulness program at Woolman Hill.
