Leslie and Jenny are co-founders of Immigrant Rights Action/Grupo de Acción and serve as Board Chair and Director respectively. IRAGdA is a 100% volunteer neighborhood collective documenting ICE activity in and around Doylestown and offering immediate support to community members threatened with deportation. Since its founding in March, 2017 this collective has: made 60 attorney referrals; provided over a hundred accompaniments to ICE supervision visits, immigration court proceedings, and legal consultations; and supported 35 cases financially with a crowd-sourced legal defense fund. In cooperation with Welcoming the Stranger, it is currently sponsoring a series of Know Your Rights workshops and immigration clinics throughout Bucks County. The group's legislative advocacy team has secured meetings with municipal, state, and federal representatives to seek assurance that the constitutional rights of all Bucks County residents are consistently upheld.
Leslie & Jenny will present a brief overview of key immigration concepts and use the work of their group to illustrate the urgency of reforming our long-broken immigration system as well as supporting our neighbors currently being impacted by enforcement.
