What is the Quarterly Meeting ?
The Religious Society of Friends is organized into Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly Meetings.
The basic unit is the Monthly Meeting, the equivalent to the local congregation in most other churches. It is customary for Friends to worship every Sunday at a designated time. It is also the practice to hold business meetings once a month.
Members of a Monthly Meeting are also members of the Quarterly meeting which meets for worship and business every three months. Similarly, all members within a certain geographic region belong to a Yearly Meeting which meets for several days once a year.
Bucks Quarterly Meeting is composed of 14 unprogrammed Monthly Meetings in the Bucks County area (including one New Jersey Meeting). Bucks Quarter is a member of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting. For information regarding the organizational structure of the Quarter, please see Quarter Committees.
Every month the Bucks Quarter Outreach Committee sends out a Welcome Neighbor letter. For further information about any of these Meetings, or Quakers and their beliefs, please contact the Bucks Quarter Coordinator.
