37th Annual Yardley Meeting Flea Market

This is not your garden variety flea market! Over 100 vendors will be offering very reasonable prices on antiques, collectibles and crafts.  Plants, fresh baked goods, gently used clothing, furniture and much more will also be for sale and let’s not forget about those White Elephants! There will  be space for local non-profits. Free parking is next to the meetinghouse and paid parking on the grounds of the meetinghouse will also be available. Funds raised are for unbudgeted outreach needs as they arise throughout the year. Contact Kim Fulton at 215-295-1678 with questions regarding space rental.

The BQ Peace and Concerns Committee

will meet at Fallsington Meeting on Sept 19 at the rise of Meeting for Worship. Caroline Packard who is a mediator/ facilitator from PYM will also be attending. Issues have arisen as a result of Friends walking in the Doylestown Memorial Day parade. Some local residents and Veterans took offense to our participation carrying banners that read, “Peace is Patriotic.”  Although in general, the BQ group was welcomed and appreciated, we need to find a common ground to open constructive dialogue with those who oppose our participation in the parade.

Chandler Hall Art and Antique Appraisal

Bring your treasures for valuation and support this great fundraiser. Proceeds benefit the Chandler Hall Auxiliary Assistance Fund. Contact your Meeting’s Chandler Hall representative or Edwina Asch at 215-946-6080 for more information. Ask your CH  representative appointed by your Meeting about membership and activities of the Auxiliary. New members are always welcome!

Camp Dark Waters Needs Our Help

Down in the southern half of New Jersey lies another Quaker Camp, Camp Dark Waters. Some of us spent many wonderful weeks in the shade and cedar water of Camp Dark Waters (hence the name). As many of you recall the Medford NJ area was devastated by flood waters on July 12. Camp Dark Waters suffered severe flood damage as it is located along the creek. Three cabins were floated off of their foundations. Two other cabins and the dining hall suffered foundation damage. Water rose five feet inside the lodge and all office equipment and records appear to be lost. The balance of summer sessions were cancelled. The counselors made a sign, “In the midst of devastating disaster, create something.”  Camp Dark Waters will do just that and it  will conquer the obstacles currently  placed before it,  however  they need our help. Many supplies are needed and a list is posted on the website at http://www.campdarkwaters.org, if you are able to donate any of the items listed please send an email to: mailto:mhelpdarkwaters@yahoo.com. A disaster relief fund has been established for those who can offer monetary support. Please send you tax deductible donation to Camp Dark Waters, Inc. Relief Fund P.O. Box 9921 Phila., PA 19118.
