PYM Exceeds Annual Fund Goal

Thanks go out to everyone for helping PYM to not only reach the $435,000 goal but to exceed it by $21,000! Sadly in the recent past, cuts had to be made to programs and staff due to lack of funding. With Friends good stewardship, programs, services and staff positions for the 2004-2005 fiscal year will remain in tact and available for those in  need.

Religious Freedom Restoration Act is Found Applicable...or is it?

For many years PYM has supported the war tax resistance of employee Priscilla Adams. On June 28, U.S. District Judge Stewart Dalzell issued his ruling in the suit the IRS filed against PYM in July 2003 for the collection of Priscilla’s back taxes. PYM was ordered to collect the back taxes from Priscilla Adams as well as the interest and pay it to the IRS. PYM and Priscilla do not have to pay penalty fees associated with the non-payment of taxes.

According to Judge Dalzell, the Yearly Meeting has established that the IRS’s conduct substantially pressured it to abandon core Quaker beliefs
