Beginning Oct 6th & 20th and continuing on 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month, plans to start a philosophical adventure that is the reading of the book "Mutant Message Down Under," by Marlo Morgan. By taking an extended walkabout with an Aboriginal Tribe across Australia she brings important messages for us all. This is an opportunity to discover the spiritual wisdom of an ancient culture. After Worship at 10 am, reading will be from 11:15-11:45.
Peace Pals will meet at 6:30 pm sharp at Wrightstown Meeting and go to Midnight Productions Haunted House. There will also be live bands. The cost is $12 per person. We will need drivers for cars. Ask if your parents can help. Everyone will go back to Wrightstown Meeting for parent pick-up. The date is Sat, October 19th. Peace Pals begins at 6:30 pm. Parent pick-up is 9:00 pm. You won't need a permission form is you were there previously. If you're coming for the first time, don't forget to have your parent fill out the permission form. Bring a friend!
Bucks Quarter kids need your help! Do you have a few hours a year to give of yourself and your talents to the Peace Pals? This is wonderful group of kids from many Meetings in the Quarter that range in age from 10 years to 14 years, give or take a year. They come together for a couple of hours once a month and have fun. The problem is the few adults that plan and deliver the events are finding that their ideas are getting stale and we aren't serving the group as well as we would like to.
We have met on the third Saturday of each month except July and August at Wrightstown Meeting from 7 pm-9 pm. Occasionally we take our kids somewhere else or sometimes change the date. Current dates are: Sept 28, Oct 19, Nov 16, and Dec 21.
Nigel Pascoe from London is coming to Arch Street for a public meeting on Thursday on October 17 at 7 pm at Arch Street Meeting. Nigel extends an invitation to all Quakers, Friends Schools, and their families. Nigel has performed in New Zealand, America, and England with 50 performances. This story carries a message to oppose any attempt to undermine a fundamental people's freedom. Info: call Helen File at 215-627-2667.
The date is Sunday, October 13th, at 5:30 pm, at Middletown Country Club, 420 North Bellevue Ave, Langhorne, PA. There will be Butler Style hors d'oeuvres and desserts. Silent and live auctions will have very special gift items, art work, entertainment and travel opportunities. You must RSVP by October 3rd. Info: 215-750-7220. Proceeds benefit peace education and violence prevention programs in our schools, communities and families.
The series is on Wednesday evenings, from 7-9 pm and is on Oct 9 - Nov 13, 2002. The Peace Center will present its Peaceful Parenting Workshop Series based on the curriculum, "How to Talk So Kids Will Listen & Listen So Kids will Talk." Some of the many enlightening subjects covered in this series include: positive discipline strategies, conflict resolution, creative problem solving, reducing stress for you and your child, and effective communication skills. Alice Swann will teach the workshop. The cost is $30 plus $20 for the book. Registration is required for the workshop. Call the Peace Center at 215-750-7220.
Also, there is a Youth Empowerment Project on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month at the Peace Center from 4-6 pm. Young people ages 14-17 are invited to come and share their thoughts, ideas, visions, meet new people and work together on community projects of their choosing.
This Workshop is on Saturday, Oct 26 from 9 am-3:30 pm at Arch Street Meetinghouse. Lunch and child care provided. Register by Wed, October 16th. The fee is $10 per person and can accommodate only 50 participants. Annette Benert (Clerk of Care and Counsel) and Deborah Cooper (Coordinator of the Friends Counseling Service) will lead this program, along with several others.
The workshop will begin by exploring how those there might consider care giving for individuals in the context of the meeting as a whole, its nature, strengths, and purpose. The workshop is to be a "training for trainers" so that those who attend will have had sufficient experience to teach what they learned to others in their Meeting. The focus will be on how meetings can educate themselves about these issues and support their members, while at the same time caring for the integrity of the meeting as a whole. Registration for participation and child care must be received by Oct 16th. Call Annette Benert: 1-610-866-9723 or mailto:steveg@pym.org
