Meet Edward Hicks

Meet Edward Hicks, (1780-1849), the celebrated Bucks County Quaker and painter of the “Peaceable Kingdoms!” Actor Nelson Camp, George School’s drama teacher, has created a performance that appeals to families, schools, meetings, art-and-history-lovers, and anyone interested in Quaker heritage. He appears in costume as Hicks himself, using slides, music, and humor to bring to life the art and spiritual quest of Edward Hicks. For information call 215-357-2884.

Wanted: Camp Onas Campers from BQM

Now is the time to register for a fun-filled summer session at Camp Onas, the Quaker Camp in Bucks County for children 8-13. Use the enclosed brochure to register, or if you can’t use the brochure, pass it on to a family with a child who may be interested in going to Camp Onas. A special Quaker rate and financial aid is available. Call Sue, the Director of Camp Onas, at 610-847-5858 with any questions. Don’t delay. Camp Onas fills up quickly!

The Nuclear Age Peace Foundation

Help our children participate. The US war is killing many Afghan people now and thwarting relief efforts to prevent the starvation of 7.5 million others. The Peace Foundation asks children to send $1 to Unicef, 333 East 38th St., New York, NY 10016, and write to George Bush to end the war (1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington, DC 20509). This may be something for Friends First Day Schools. Perhaps the children might want to send a card to Unicef too.

The Peace Center Blessed with Several Charitable Trust Grants

The Peace Center has received grants from seven charitable organizations for the Year 2001, totaling $15,5000. These came from the John & Clara Haas Charitable Trust, the Anna & Elizabeth Chace Fund, Thomas and Mary Williams Shoemaker Fund, Children’s Learning Center Foundation, Johnson & Johnson, and the Cervelli Charitable Trust. The Peace Center provides violence prevention programs in communities and schools, and families and children. Call 215-750-7220 for more information.
