Marge Schier says that clearance of the minefield began on April 26th and will take nine months to complete. Three de-mining platoons, each with a staff of 24 people, are working in the village of Boeng Krosal in Cambodia. We all helped raise the more than $30,000 to make the village free of landmines. Elizabeth Huberman says that children will once again be able to play safely, farmers cultivate their land, and mine accidents will be a nightmare of the past. Each donor to this ending will sleep well at night.

Being with Friends is a new video, designed by Friends Services for the Aging to help the mostly non-Quaker staff of its member organizations understand what it means to work at Friends retirement facilities. Its purpose is to stimulate staff reflection and discussion on the values and characteristics of the Quaker organization in which they work and on the relationship between the Friends values on which the organizations are based and the values that the staff bring to their work from their rich and varied backgrounds. If your Meeting would like to arrange a showing of Being with Friends call Betsy Balderston-215-241-7226.

The U.S. Postal Service recently released its new “Fund the Cure” stamp to help fund breast cancer research. It is important that we take a stand against this disease that kills and maims so many of our mothers, sisters, and friends. Instead of the normal 34 cent stamp, this one costs 40 cents. The additional 7 cents will go to breast cancer research. If all stamps are sold, it will raise an additional $16,000,000 for this vital research.
