Day of Mindfulness and Meditation

This program will be held at St. Philips Church, located at River Road and Chapel Road in New Hope, on April 21st., from 10am-5pm.  Program will include walking and sitting meditation.  Call Valerie Brown at 609-397-7267 or 732-937-7512. 

Drama Director at George School

Nelson Camp will be on sabbatical for next year.  This one-year job starts in September and runs to early June.  It involves teaching Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Drama Classes, ages 9th-12th grades.  The drama teacher also directs two plays on the main stage, which are  supported by a professional Costumer and also by a professional Set and Lighting Designer.  If interested, a resume and cover letter should be sent to: Judy Bartella, Arts Department Chair, George School, Newtown, PA  18940. 

Strengthening Community Relationships

This all-day Conference and Expo will take place at the Community College on Saturday, April 28th, with the intent of uniting the business, educational, governmental, and religious communities with human services.  The event is free to the public.  There will be four panel discussions: violence prevention, drug and alcohol abuse, seniors, and youth.  The conference goal is to provide tools and avenues that strengthen community relationships.  For more information call 215-750-7220. 

Chandler Hall Hospice Seeks Volunteers

Chandler Hall Hospice is offering a five week Hospice Volunteer Training Program beginning April 2, at 6:30 pm-9pm every Monday and Wednesday.  This series will prepare volunteers to work with people faced with terminal illness as well as their families.  Program includes the hospice concept, family dynamics, symptom control, interdisciplinary team functions and bereavement.  Call 860-4000, ext. 1410 or ext. 1375 for information. 

Preparing the Way: Writing, Developing and Using Quaker Curricula

This weekend program with Marsha Holliday and Robin Wells at Pendle Hill will help all ages in First Day School. Marsha Holliday will share how to evaluate, write, administer and use curricula.  Robin Wells will show Friends how to create games that support FDS curriculum. She mixes fun, games and multigenerational activities.  Cost is $205/double, $250/single.  Call 610-566-4507 for info. 

Workshop for Clerks of Quaker Committees

Arthur Larrabee (Central Philadelphia Meeting) will lead a morning workshop for Bucks Quarter Friends on Saturday, May 12, from 9:30-12:30 at Wrightstown Meeting.  This workshop if for anyone who is clerking or may clerk a committee in the future.  Imagine having the skills to turn clerking from a burden into a labor of love, even a spiritual experience!  Share ideas, find support and learn in the company of Friends.  Call Jen Stromsten at 215-968-3235 if you want to take part.  Bring a brown bag lunch. 

BQM Singing Group at St. Francis Cabrini

Friends in the Quarter are invited to a concert at St. Francis Cabrini Church on Sunday, April 29th, at 7 pm.  This wonderful evening of music includes many choirs who will sing a variety of pieces.  Our Singing Group will be there.  We hope you will come too! 

14th Wrightstown Friends Nursery School Auction

This event, sponsored by parents, teachers, and Wrightstown Friends Meeting members will be held at 6 pm on Saturday, April 21st.  Proceeds will fund special needs and scholarships for the Nursery School.  Auction donations such as goods or services welcome.  Info: 215-295-2545.

Buckingham Friends SchoolSummer Arts Camp

The Arts Camp has three two-week sessions: June 18-29 ($320), July 2-13 ($288), and July 16-27 ($320).  The camp schedule is from 9am-3pm.  Early pre-camp drop-off time is 8:15am; post-camp pick-up time is 5:45pm (not Fridays).  The Summer Arts Camp is an opportunity to create and perform in a setting of cooperation rather than competition.  Activities include woodworking, theatre arts, production and set design, water color and acrylic painting, still life drawing, papermaking, printmaking, textiles, and more.  For information: 215-794-7491 or 609-397-4711.

Peace Pals

Dee Gardiner from Quakertown Meeting will lead Peace Pals in “Practically Theatrical - Evening of Theater Games and Music Too.”  Come join the fun!  Bring a friend. We will meet on Saturday, April 28th at Wrightstown Meeting.

The fun begins at 7:00 and ends at 9:30.  Cost is $3 each. You don’t need another permission form if you were there previously.  If you’re coming for the first time don’t forget to have your parent fill out the permission form on the back of the flyer. We will keep the permission forms on file for you so you won’t have to fill out a form each time.  Call Sandy at 860-9747 for information. 

The Peace Center’s Peace Camp 2001

This year’s Peace Camp will be held at Middletown Meeting.  There will be 3 one-week sessions: July 23-27, July 30-Aug 3, Aug 6-10, for children in 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th grade as of Sept 2001.  There are only 30 spaces per week.  Camp begins at 9am and ends at 12:30 pm. Cost is $75 per child. Scholarship aid  & family discounts available. To register or for information call 215-750-7220.

4th Annual Wine Tasting & Feast for the Senses

This annual event on Sunday, April 22, at the Michener Museum from 4 - 7 pm really is a feast for the senses.  There will be excellent wines, delicious hor d’oeuvres & desserts, stunning floral designs, open art galleries & guided tours, and delightful music.  Cost is $45 per person.  Reservations required.  Proceeds benefit the Violence Prevention Programs of The Peace Center.  Info: 750-7220.

Skillful volunteer to cut CDs

SpankOut Day USA

The Center for Effective Discipline/EPOCH-USA (End Physical Punishment of Children) is sponsoring SpankOut Day USA on April 30th.  Children who experience frequent corporal punishment are more likely to physically attack siblings, develop less adequately-developed consciences, experience adult depression, and physically attack a spouse as an adult.  For more information call 614-221-8829 or website: www.stophitting.com or 215-750-7220.

Secondary School Religion Teachers Gathering

Friday, April 6, 2001, is the date for the Secondary School Religion Teachers Gathering.  It will take place in the Rufus Jones Room at Friends Center, 1515 Cherry St., Philadelphia, PA 19102.  Call 215-241-7245.  This program is sponsored by Friends Council on Education. 

India Relief

The American Friends Service Committee hopes that you and your family will make a donation to AFSC, marked “India Relief.” Send your donation to AFSC/Development Office, 1501 Cherry St., Philadelphia PA 19102.  Relief assistance has reached some areas.  Small towns and rural areas remain cut off.  AFSC has made a grant to the Bombay Sarvodaya Friendship Center which has sent one team of three doctors and two support personnel to Rapar, a small village in one of the hardest hit areas.
