Camp Onas Campers - Now’s the Time!

BQM Worship & Ministry Meeting

Middletown Friends will lead us in a discussion dealing with the propriety of secular ministry in our Meetings for Worship, and the collateral issue of whether we as a religious society ought to apply a litmus test of belief in God as being a qualification for membership in the Society of Friends.  Date is Feb 16th, 6:00 pm at Middletown.

Help Increase the Peace

The next Help Increase the Peace program will be held at Burlington Meetinghouse in Burlington.  The program will start at 6 pm on Thursday evening and end at 4 pm on Saturday.  Cost is $70.   Information: 215-379-0328.

Kathy Guthrie, FCNL representative on the “Back from the Brink” National Coalition to take nuclear weapons off hair-trigger alert will be speaker, announcing National Call-In Days to the White House on February 5th & 6th.   This program at Pennswood Village is on Feb 1st, at 7 pm in Penn Hall.

Pendle Hill Offering in February

How to Improve the Performance of Your Board will be led by Tom Holland.  The program will speak to common practices and innovative alternative approaches to governance that increase the value a board adds to an organization. Date is February 5th.  Lecture begins at 7:30 pm in the Barn Meeting Room. There is no charge.

All Night at the Franklin Institute

Grab your sleeping bag, toothbrush, etc. We will explore the Franklin Institute.  Included in this year’s program: The Sports Challenge: Work Out Your Brain & Your Body, Gear Up in the 3D Theater: Interactive Show and Effects. Tutleman IMAX Theater: Athletes Push to the Extreme.  Fels Planetarium: Sunlight-Moonlight Space Adventure. The date is Saturday, February 2nd.  We will meet at the George School parking lot opposite the Meeting House.  We will leave at 4:30 pm. Campers can be picked up on Saturday at 11:00 am at George School.  Cost is $45.00.  Flyers are in the mail.  For information: 215-860-9747.

Couple Enrichment Weekend at Pendle Hill

This workshop on February 16-18 includes worship, worship-sharing, and experiential exercises in a group atmosphere of trust.  The couples only workshop is enrichment of the relationship, not therapy.  Jacob and Gretta Stone will lead the program.  The cost is $410 per couple.  Call to make reservations at 1-800-742-3150 or 610-566-4507 or  email to: registrar@pendlehill.org

Peace Pals

The next Peace Pals event is Van Gogh’s Cafe - An Evening in Paris!  Bring your poetry and read it.  Bring your art work and talk about it. Bring your stories and read them. Bring your musical instruments and play them.  Bring any other talents.  Talk about your hobbies and talents.  Wear your beret. Dress like an artist.  Be prepared to paint your own masterpiece if you desire.  Paints and brushes will be provided.  Bring your CD’s so we can have background music (appropriate to Van Gogh).  Hot chocolate, biscotti, and chocolate chip cookies will be available.

The fun begins at 7:00 and ends at 9:30.  Cost is $3 each. You don’t need another permission form if you were there previously.  If you’re coming for the first time don’t forget to have your parent fill out the permission form on the back of the flyer. We will keep the permission forms on file for you so you won’t have to fill out a form each time.  Call Sandy at 860-9747 for information.

Caretaker Wanted at Solebury Meeting

Homebound volunteers

Homebound and visually impaired residents of Bucks County now receive books on tape and CD’s from the Doylestown Library.  Homebound volunteers are already delivering the tapes and CD’s.  If you know of someone who could benefit from this program, call the Homebound Coordinator, Sue Brodish, at 215-348-2274.  There is no charge for this service.

Herb Marsch

Herb Marsch, a longtime member of Makefield Meeting, died in Boca Raton, Florida, on December 10th.  He is survived by his wife, Sue, and two sons, Jeffrey and Scott.  Mr. Marsch was on the Board of Newtown Friends School for many years.

The Bucks Quarter Singing Group

The Bucks Quarter Singing Group will again be part of Lower Bucks Center for Church and Community’s Festival of Sacred Music on Sunday evening, on April 29th at 7:00 PM, at St. Francis Cabrini Church.

Peter Yeomans

Peter Yeomans will be going to Rwanda this winter as a volunteer for the Alternatives to Violence Project.  He would like to make presentations of this project to Meetings in our area.  Call 215-438-0917 to set a date with Peter.

Introduction to Quakerism: An Oral History of Fallsington Friends Meeting

On January 14, 2001, Patrick Sweeney and Marge Schier presented to Barbara and Sam Snipes the first copy of the Meeting’s new book, Introduction to Quakerism: An Oral History of Fallsington Friends Meeting.  The book is dedicated to Barbara and Sam.

Clerk of the Outreach Committee

Carol Smith-Roach has stepped down as Clerk of the Outreach Committee.  Lois Wilson will assume the Clerk’s position. 

Pennsylvania’s 1701 Charter of Privileges

Friends will want to be part of the conference/training day given by the Quaker Information Center to learn about Pennsylvania’s 1701 Charter of Privileges.  This conference is the kick-off event for an array of activities that will take place from March through October, celebrating the anniversary of the Charter.  The date is Wednesday, February 21st, at Arch Street Meetinghouse, from 8:30 am - 3 pm.  Cost is $10.  For more information: 215-241-7241.
