Pack your bag, bring your camera and jammies! Get ready for our trip to Washington, DC, on January 22nd & 23rd! Middle School and Young Friends are invited to see the sights of Washington, visit the Holocaust Museum, the Vietnam Memorial, Florida Avenue Meeting, the museums on the Mall, including Air and Space. We will cook our meals at the Youth Hostel, where we will be staying. We will meet on Saturday at George School in the parking lot near the meetinghouse at 6:30 AM, and return to George School about 6 PM on Sunday. The cost for the trip is $60. United Friends School Admissions 2000-2001
United Friends School in Quakertown, PA, welcomes inquiries for the 2000-2001 school year. Parents may call the school at 215-538-1733 to make an appointment to tour the school. The first Admissions Open House of the year will be on Sunday, Feb 6, from 2-4 PM, at the Tenth Street Campus.
Celestial Flesh: Reclaiming the Vitality and Spirit of our Earliest Friends
This exciting program on Saturday, Jan 22nd, will be held at Falls Meeting with speaker Michele Tarter, whose talk will be based on archival research. Friends will meet at Falls at 5:30 for a covered dish supper, and the talk will begin at 7 PM. Michele has been studying Quaker archives in England and Philadelphia for the past 11 years. In addition, she spent a year as the Cadbury Scholar at Pendle Hill, and is now teaching early American literature at The College of New Jersey. This past summer she lived as a writer-in-residence at Brigflatts Meeting in England (built by George Fox and near Firbank Fell). She is currently completing her book on early Quaker women’s literature, while also writing other scholarly articles and serving as editor for the Friends Association for Higher Education newsletter. Women in Winter: Releasing our Spiritual Power
This is the seventh year that Pat McBee has invited women to gather for a quiet winter weekend, this year on Jan 28-30. The weekend will be held at Cranaleith, a Victorian mansion on lovely grounds in Northeast Philadelphia. It is a time of unhurried pace and quiet and rest, and a time to get to know other women. The Lutheran Church of God’s Love on the Newtown-Yardley Road will host The Peace Center’s Peaceful Parenting Workshop. The six sessions run from Jan 25th thru Feb 29th, from 7 - 9 PM. The cost is $30. Parents will learn skills for reducing stress for yourself & your child, communicating effectively, creative problem solving, setting enforceable limits, positive discipline. Couple Enrichment Weekendat Camp Onas

Camp Onas Campers - Now’s the Time
If you are a Camp Onas camper or want to become one, now is the time to register for a great time at Comp Onas, the Friends Camp in Bucks County. Returning campers, send in your registration form that we sent you in December. New Camp Onas campers, look for brochures in your Meeting or call Sue at 610-847-5858 and she will send you a brochure and answer any questions you and your parents may have. If you want to be at Camp Onas this summer, now is the time to register before the spots are all gone.
Pastoral Care in the Friends Tradition
Friends in the Quarter are invited to this eight week program on Pastoral Care, led by Steve Dutton and Paula Teague. The sessions will begin on Jan 9th and continue through Feb 20th. The program will be held at Buckingham Meeting from 7 PM to 9 PM on Sunday evenings. The cost of the training is $50. Topics include Pastoral Care in the Manner of Friends, Listening with an Open Heart, Caring in Grief and Loss, Use of Self in Pastoral Care, Concerns for Boundaries and Confidentiality, Conflict Resolution, and two case studies. There will be guest speakers for the program, along with Steve Dutton & Paula Teague, who are members of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education. Chandler Hall Community Living
The construction of the apartments at Chandler Hall is moving at a rapid pace. The estimated date of the completion of the first phase is March 2000. The Meeting House is also under construction. There are 3 options for the apartments: a studio unit, a one bedroom unit, and a one bedroom corner unit. There are 12 apartments per floor, and there are 4 handicapped apartments per building. Each apartment has a living room, large bathroom, kitchenette, and large walk-in closet. Residents will provide their own furniture/accessories. Prices per month run from $2950 to $3802. This includes services such as weekly housekeeping, apartment maintenance, transportation, on-site banking, activities & programs, fitness room, walking paths and garden plots. There is no entrance fee. There is a dining area and parlor with grand piano in each building.
The Meeting House is a separate building which has a restaurant, also available to the public. In addition there is a theater available for live performances. Adjoining is a Quaker meetinghouse room. Chandler Hall hopes that each Meeting in the Quarter will donate one bench.
Chandler Hall’s Community Living offers assisted living for adults who wish to simplify their lives with manageable living quarters and accessible services while continuing an active lifestyle. Parents Helping Parents - A Support Group
The Bucks County Peace Centers provides parents with a chance to discuss the problems and stresses of raising children with help and guidance from other parents and the facilitators. The programs are on Monday evenings. There is no charge for the programs or childcare. All you have to do is show up. There are two locations: United Christian Church, 8525 New Falls Rd., Levittown, from 8-9:30 PM; and, Church of the Brethren, 1333 Cowpath Rd., Hatfield, from 7:30-8:30 PM.
