Middletown Meeting will have its annual picnic supper and auction on November 5th, at the meetinghouse. Friends are invited to this free picnic supper at 6:30 PM, followed by the auction at 7:30 PM. Items in the auction include home made pickles, pies & cakes, hand-crafted items, and more. Information: 215-357-8964.
Covered Dish Dinner & Square Dance at Falls
Falls Meeting invites Friends to a Covered Dish Dinner (6 PM) and Square Dance (7:30 PM) on Saturday, Nov 27th, in the Community Room. This event, honoring Howard Snipes and Susan Durnford Snipes at the 10th year anniversary of their deaths, is a celebration of their lives and a celebration of life. There will be a free will offering for Habitat for Humanity with which Howard and Susan worked for many years. Information: 736-1856.
Sign-Up Sheets for Pancake Breakfast
There will be sign-up sheets in all the Meetings for the Pancake Breakfast at Newtown Meeting. The all-male pancake bakers need a count of how many will be attending, including children. Please sign up by November 14th. Someone in your Meeting must call Paul Kester (968-2317) with the numbers by Nov 14th. The cost is $5 per person which helps support the BQM Outreach Committee.
Kathryn Gordon (Unity Monthly Meeting) is editor of Climbing the Walls, a magazine for prisoners, their families, and friends. Friends can receive copies of this magazine by subscribing to Climbing the Walls. Kathryn also urges Meetings to buy a magazine subscription for a prison library in our area to help prisoners keep in touch with the outside world. Newtown Friends School Admissions Open House
Newtown Friends School is holding an Admissions Open House on Sunday, November 7th, from 2-4 PM. Families are invited to come and meet with teachers & administrators and receive a student-led tour of the school. Quaker Ecumenical Seminars in Theology
This weekend workshop/seminar will be held at State College Friends School, in State College, PA, on January 14-16 (King Holiday Weekend). This will be the first in a series of seminars. United Friends School Seeks Head of School
United Friends School seeks a head of school beginning Aug. 1st. The ideal candidate will guide the school’s ongoing curricular evolution, bringing to the discussion enthusiasm and strength in innovative educational vision and practice. In addition, the candidate should have experience on consensus building and group facilitation, an appreciation for Quaker practice and a sense of humor. Teen Night in November will be on Saturday, November 20th at 7:30 PM. Bring $2 and a friend. There will be games, a movie, music, snacks, and chance to meet new friends. Parent pick-up is at 10 PM.
Environmental Conference & Native American "Musicfest"
This two-part event begins with the Environmental Conference: "Native American Voices" from 3-6 PM, and is free to the public. The Native American "Musicfest," from 7-10 PM, is a benefit concert. BQM Worship & Ministry Committee
Bucks Quarter’s Worship and Ministry committee will meet at Southampton Meeting on Friday, November 19, at 6 PM for a covered dish dinner. Following dinner, Russell Bowers will introduce a discussion of our Spiritual nature followed by Anne Merrill leading a discussion on concerns regarding Meeting for Worship etiquette. Sister Prejean Speaks at AFSC Gathering
The American Friends Service Committee will hold its annual public gathering on Saturday, November 6, at 1:30 PM, at Friends Center. There is no charge to the public and child care is provided. The theme of the gathering is "Ending Violence: Creating Conditions for Peace with Justice." Sister Helen Prejean, anti-death penalty activist and author of Dead Man Walking, will give the keynote address, followed by 3 simultaneous panels about AFSC programs. Parents Helping Parents - A Support Group
The Bucks County Peace Centers provides parents with a chance to discuss the problems and stresses of raising children with help and guidance from other parents and the facilitators. The programs are on Monday evenings. There is no charge for the programs or childcare. All you have to do is show up. There are two locations: United Christian Church, 8525 New Falls Rd., Levittown, from 8-9:30 PM; and, Church of the Brethren, 1333 Cowpath Rd., Hatfield, from 7:30-8:30 PM.
