New Chandler Hall Format for Sundays
The new format for Friends who help with Chandler Hall Sundays:

March 20th is the date and 7:30 PM is the time for the next Teen Night at Wrightstown. Don’t miss out on the fun. Bring a friend. There’s pool, ping pong, card games, music, and more. Bring $2. Snacks will be provided. Parent pick-up is 10 PM.
Children’s Center at George School
Applications for enrollment at the Children’s Center at George School are available. The Center accepts children ages 4 months through 5 years. The Children’s Center provides a wonderful atmosphere for your little ones. Call 579-6561 for information and application form.
There will be another Sacred Grounds Coffee House at Falls Meeting on Friday, March 12, at 7:30 PM. Cost is $5 for admission and snacks. The groups include IAM for a return performance and Finast. Falls Meeting is located at New Falls Rd. & Tyburn Rd. Information: 736-2657.
A Quaker Ministry to Persons With AIDS
Friends are needed to make Friendly visits to people ill and isolated with AIDS. The next training session is April 7th-18th, during evening and weekend times. A Quaker Ministry to Persons with AIDS can find ways to connect you locally for your assignment service. The training teaches the use of Quaker spirituality, listening, simple service, basic bedside techniques, transfer from bed to wheelchair. Your commitment to a weekly visit is asked. Peace Youth Program at the Hague
Did you know that a total of 28 young adults and 8 adults from all over Philadelphia Yearly Meeting are going to the Hague Appeal for Peace conference? Nine Friends from our Quarter are going on the trip, which will be led by Gail Newbold of London Grove Meeting. The cost for each person is $1700. Friends and Monthly Meetings should consider financial support for our delegates from Bucks Quarter. In addition, the Quaker Council on European Affairs and Quaker United Nations office in Geneva are compiling young people’s poems, articles, pictures, and more, on their understanding of and commitment to peace. These will be posted on the internet at: youth.haguepeace.org

Addition to Calendar & Appointments Book

the BQM Oversight Committee.
The agenda for the PYM one-day session at Arch Street Meetinghouse starts with registration at 9 AM, followed by reports from Nominating Committee, Fiduciary Corporation, Treasurer, Interim Meeting, Yearly Meeting Sessions Planning Group, the 2000-2001 budget. The afternoon includes final consideration of the budget, action on Nominating Committee report, report from the Educational Concerns Group on Education Plans and Initiatives. Beginning at 4 PM, there will be a panel presentation and discussion by Young Friends on "Charting Your Course: The Role of Education as a Foundation for Quaker Life Today." Childcare and children’s program are available during the session.
Middle School and Young Friends are invited to an all-night volleyball marathon on Friday, March 5th, at the sports center on the George School campus. This marathon is a fundraiser to help the Centro Educativo Nicaraguito School in Managua, Nicaragua. George School students and faculty go each year to Managua to help out in any way possible. We give our support by having the volleyball marathon as a fundraiser. Everybody who participates must find friends, neighbors, parents, family to help with this big effort by giving what they can afford. The flyers with their donor sheets list are out. It’s time to get busy! We’ll play volleyball (some prefer basketball), swim in the pool, and eat pizza. Bring your board games for a break. The fun begins at 7 PM and parent pick-up is 7 AM. Admissions Open House at the Quaker School at Horsham
Tuesday, March 9th, at 9 AM, is the next opportunity to visit the Open House at The Quaker School at Horsham. The school provides a unique program for children who learn differently. Included at the Open House is a slide show, a tour of the school, and discussion with Bill Hallowell, Head of School. For information call 674-2875.
Dr. Sandra Bloom on "Creating Sanctuary"
Dr. Sandra Bloom, author of "Creating Sanctuary" and President of Physicians for Social Responsibility will discuss the effects of post-traumatic syndrome on all aspects of our society and will offer alternatives to resolving conflicts with violence. Dr. Bloom will speak at Bucks County Community College on Thursday, March 4th, at 7:30 PM. Information: call the Peace Center at 750-7220.
Covered Dish Dinner and Singalong
Did you miss the Covered Dish Dinner and Singalong at Buckingham Friends School last summer? Don’t miss out this time! Doylestown Meeting’s well-known Faith and Practice folk band will entertain with their instruments and voices. The Bucks Quarter Singing group will sing some of their favorite songs, and Friends will join in the music. You may bring your own musical instrument. If you have a Worship in Song hymnal or Rise Up Singing! please bring them. There will be copies of both for borrowing in addition. The fee for admission is your favorite dish. Amnesty International Opportunities
Amnesty International USA has three programs available for this summer. They include: designing your own human rights project for practical, applied fieldwork; a Human Rights Summer Institute in June which is geared toward starting a career in the field of human rights; a 9-day seminar focusing on the abolition of the death penalty. Learn to Swim Program at Chandler Hall
The next series of swim lessons will begin on March 1st and end on April 16th. This is a seven week program which costs $62. Registration is on Feb 24th, from 6:30-8:30 PM, at Chandler Hall. You may also call Karen Crossley at 860-4000, ext. 216 after February 24th. There is a wide range of classes from which to choose. Classes will be held during the week, weekends, and evenings.
Chandler Hall Hospice Seeks Volunteers
Chandler Hall Hospice is offering a four week hospice volunteer training program beginning March 4th, from 6:30-9 PM every Tuesday and Thursday. The program prepares volunteers to work with people faced with terminal illnesses as well as their families. Volunteers are the backbone of the program, assisting with errands, visits, recreational pursuits, personal care, and chores. For more information call Charlotte Medl at 860-4000, ext. 371.
In addition, the U.S. Post Office has put out a Hospice Care stamp. It is available in every Post Office. The stamp represents a celebration of 25 years of improving the way people are cared for at the end of their lives.

Friends Home is in need of large print books. If you have large print books which you no longer need, please take them to Friends Home. The residents will be grateful. Please do not bring Readers’ Digests as they have plenty of them.

Did you know that Jenna Seuffert (Middletown Meeting) and Jessica Leonard (Bristol Meeting) are volunteers for the mentoring program at Bristol Meeting? They help local students with their homework.
Judy Van Hoy, PYM librarian, suggests Peterson’s newest reference book, Summer Opportunities for Kids and Teenagers, as a good source for your children this summer. The book is organized by state, with subject listings in the back. You might want to check it out at your library or bookstore.
From the Peace and Concerns Standing Committee: David Zarembka is available to Meetings to speak on a Peace Team undertaking, the African Great Lakes Project, which was requested by African Friends and is now being explored by an international delegation. The intention is to apply tested Friends methods in the troubled Great Lakes Region of Africa.
It’s not too late to call Beverly Cassel, area coordinator of the Children’s Friendship Project for Northern Ireland, if you are interested in hosting two teens for six weeks from July to mid-August. Beverly’s number is 493-8511.
