There are currently six positions available at Philadelphia Yearly Meeting:
Persons who oppose war and preparation for war currently
face a dilemma: if they obey their conscience and refuse to pay taxes which
support the military, they must disobey the law. Under the Peace Tax Fund
Bill, the federal taxes of conscientious objectors would go into a trust
fund which would be used for non-military purposes only.
PYM is offering a free two-hour guided discussion/consultation
on managing change and difficulties in the life of the Meeting. Discussions
will be led by Caroline Packard, PYM’s Conflict Response Specialist, and
include how to effectively and lovingly deal with changes, difficult decisions,
and disagreements in your meeting. What does your Meeting do when a family
is breaking up? when a committee is bogging down? when one member is seen
as difficult? How does your meeting handle major decisions about whether
to build an addition? what to do about your Friends school? right use of
financial resources? Call Caroline Packard at 1-800-220-0796, ext 7029.

As most of you know,Kenya
has the highest concentration of Quakers in the world. The Friends
World Committee for Consultation received a report from Ecumenical News
International in which it was suggested that the US Embassy should
be relocated away from the center of the city. One person wrote about the
walking dead — people were walking away from the direction of the American
Embassy who had been cut completely open with the internal organs showing.
A copy of this report is available through the coordinator’s office. Call

Friends gathered for a lovely day for Bucks Quarterly Meeting at Falls on August 16th. The morning program had something for everyone whether you wanted to indulge the intellectual, spiritual or playful sides of your personality. I found great joy in International Folk Dancing so early on a First Day. The Irish girls who stayed with the Daly family this summer were happy for their American experiences but sobered by the realization that they were returning to a hometown devastated by a senseless bombing the previous day. Let’s hold them and their neighbors in the Light.
During Business Meeting it was gratifying to hear of the vibrancy, love and work that we do so diligently.
To encourage Monthly Meeting input on the upcoming Threshing Session on our schools on November 15th we hope to obtain the questions in advance and distribute them to the Monthly Meetings and then come together as a Quarter in some format for discussion.
