a large, mixed population of displaced persons. Join Friends at Arch Street
Meetinghouse on Thursday, June 4th, from 5:30-7 PM, to learn about this
project from Steve Angell and Margaret McKenna, who will talk about their
six-week mission bringing Alternatives to Violence to Eastern Croatia.

Middletown Grange Fair
The Middletown Grange Fair in August will be here before
we know it. Bucks Quarterly Meeting will again have a tent there with literature
and photos and flyers and quilts. If you can volunteer for two hours on
any one of the five days, August 12-16, 10AM-10PM, please call Karen Shaudys
at 493-9406. Also, the Coordinator needs photos from Friends and Meetings
for our displays. The photos tell a lot about who we are. Pictures will
be returned in good condition. Call Sandy at 860-9747.
Pendle Hill's
High School Youth Camp
Pendle Hill and the PYM Weekend Workcamp invite Friends ages
12-18 to a Youth Camp at Pendle Hill on July 5-12. The program includes
a week of exploring social concerns, participating in workcamps, and community
building. Projects include low-income housing work in Philadelphia, a visit
to an African-American church, tours of Philadelphia, arts, crafts, games,
and outdoor activities. There will also be workshops and small group discussions
on leadership development, Quaker values, and contemporary social problems.
Participants come from all over the country. The cost is $330 with scholarships
available. Call AFSC at 241-7176 for more information.
Inquirers' Weekend
at Pendle Hill
Our own Jonathan Snipes, and Regina Haag will lead an Inquirers'
Weekend on Basic Quakerism at Pendle Hill on July 10-12. They will explore
Friends' worship, beliefs, practices, terminology, and organization. The
cost is $180 for a double room, $210 for a single. There is an extended
payment plan and some financial aid is available. There are also childcare
options. For more information call 1-800-742-3150 or 1-800-742-3150.
Quaker Heritage Celebration
The Quaker Heritage Celebration committee continues its work
on this two-day, Quarter-wide event on October 3rd-4th. Each Meeting will
do something different. The beautiful brochure is almost ready to go to
press, Friends on the committee are working hard on ideas for publicizing
this big event, and Friends in the Meetings are planning their programs.
Partial funding for the event has come from PYM's Outreach Committee and
the Chace Fund. However, the committee needs additional support from Friends
and Meetings in our Quarter to help cover costs. You and your meeting can
help raise the additional $3000-$4000 needed by sending a check, made payable
to BQM and ear-marked "Heritage Event," to the Coordinator, Box 4477 George
School, Newtown, PA 18940. For more information, speak to your meeting's
representative.
The Quaker School at Horsham
Bill Hallowell, Head of the Quaker School at Horsham, speaks
of the challenges for the school for next year. Friends may want to ponder
them:
-
How do we raise non-violent children in a violent society?
-
How can we live within a statment of simplicity in a world
that has become more and more complex?
-
How can we help the children in our schools turn swords into
plowshares when Mike Tyson looms larger than life and Joe Camel wreaks
quiet havoc on society?
-
How can we help children to develope appropriate social skills
and poise?
-
How do we successfully educate the non-Friend members of
our Quaker community about the Light, that of God in everyone, Meeting
for Worship, and the principles for which Friends Stand?

Gretta Stone, of Doylestown Meeting,

Friends came out to make a big Quaker presence at the game, with folks
from almost every Meeting. Thanks to Wally Evans for organizing us.

of Yardley Meeting, will be offered to Friends in the Quarter on Sunday
evenings from October 18 - November 22nd. Quakerism 201 will be held at

Bill, Kate, and Nell Daly, of Middletown Meeting, will
be hosting two girls from Northern Ireland for six weeks this summer. The

Friendship Project for Northern Ireland. One is Protestant and the other
Catholic. The goal is to give the visitors a chance to become friends in
a neutral environment.
Friends General Conference was officially established
in 1900. FGC has appointed a committee to coordinate centennial observances
for the year 2000. The committee is collecting
information and memorabilia related to FGC. If you have something to add,
call 215-561-1700.

his photograph, "Silence for Sarah," at the Philips Mill photography show.

Clerk's Corner -
The way our Quarterly Meeting builds community is to spend
time and share experiences with one another. Many meetings are planning
their agendas for the coming year. Please plan to be with us on these dates
over the coming year. Keep in mind August 16th at Falls, November 15th
at Doylestown, February 14th at Makefield, and May 16th at Lehigh Valley.
Consider Bucks Quarterly Meeting an integral part of both adult and First
Day school education.
Many thanks to Buckingham Friends for their spiritual
program, a delightful lunch, and a lively business meeting.
