Buckingham Meeting Friends invite Friends in the Quarter
to join them on Friday, Jan 9th, at 7:30 PM, in the meetinghouse, for an
evening of coffee and creativity. Bring your artwork, poetry, crafts, or
something else to share. Or just come and enjoy!
Middle School Friends Gathering
Middle School Friends (grades 6-8) will gather at Media Meeting
on January 23-25 for a celebration of God’s Creation through ritual
and exploring the mystery of life on this planet. Bring your sleeping bag
and plan to sleep on the floor. Cost $40, limited to 40 people. Pre-register

New Year’s Day Ice

Ice Land rink in Hamilton, NJ. 12 Noon to 2:00 PM
Chandler Hall Expansion
Approved
Chandler Hall’s application for expansion was approved on
October 2nd! The plan includes construction of 96 additional assisted living
units, new supported housing, expanded multi-level adult day health program,
a 16-bed hospice unit, and a Bereavement Center.
On another front, United Friends School and Chandler Hall
have committed to develop a plan for a combined school and elder care program
to be located in Richland Township. The goal is for a unique intergenerational
village.

Pendle Hill has three good offerings for January:

The cost for Gospel Order is $525; and $180 (double) or $210

Meetings Invited
to Learn About FWCC
Six members of PYM participated in Friends World Committee
for Consultation’s 19th Triennial in Birmingham, England, last July. These
Friends would be pleased to be invited to your Meeting to share with you
what the world family of Friends is like, its concerns, and the variety
of ways its Quakerism is expressed. The Triennial theme was "Answering
the Love of God: Living Our Testimonies." Information: call Anne Moore

Attention All Quaker
Kids, 8-13!
With winter arriving, be on the look-out for a Camp Onas
summer brochure - your ticket for a great time at Camp Onas, the Friends
Camp in Bucks County! If you will be a returning camper, you will receive
a registration form from Onas in December. Send it back right away to reserve
your spot in the session you want. If you are interested in becoming a
Camp Onas camper, check your Meeting for brochures in January or call Sue
Gould at 610-847-5858 and she will be happy to send you a brochure and
answer any questions you or your parents may have. Don’t delay! Camp Onas
fills up quickly!
Ministry, Eldering,
& Worship Gathering
Chestnut Hill Monthly Meeting will host the fifth Gathering
for Ministry, Eldering, and Worship on Saturday, January 24th, from 10
AM-3 PM. Everyone with a concern for deepening our worship and corporate
discernment is invited to this session, facilitated by Marcelle Martin
of Newtown Square Meeting and Michael Wajda of Goshen Meeting. Information:

Midweek Meeting for Worship
Try the midweek Meeting for Worship at Makefield on Thursday
evenings at 7:00 PM. It’s a good break.
BQM Young Friends Visit
Washington
Middle School and Young Friends should pack their bags for
another trip to Washington, D.C. on Sat-Sun, Jan 24th & 25th! We will
travel by bus, stay in a youth hostel, visit the Holocaust Museum (among
other places), and worship at Florida Avenue Meeting. We will leave early
on Saturday morning and return late on Sunday afternoon. The cost is $60.
Flyers will go out to all Middle School and Young Friends. Please send

Quaker Youth Pilgrimage
From July 10th - August 10th, 1998, Young Friends (ages 16-18)
from the Section of the Americas and Europe and Middle East Section will
gather to tour Quaker historical sites in England. They will also visit
a continental Yearly Meeting. At Svartbacken, the Quaker Center north of
Stockholm, Sweden, the group will enjoy a retreat and take part in a work

The deadline for applications is January 15th!
Mediation Training
Mediation training is helpful in coping better with conflict
in business, nonprofits, Meeting, school, family, or neighborhood. Caroline
Packard and Keelin Barry of PYM will run the Mediation Training program.
The dates are January 21st-23rd, Wed-Fri, from 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM, at Friends
Center. The registration deadline is January 5th. The cost is $350, and
enrollment is limited. Call 241-7029 for additional information.
The Quaker School
at Horsham Open House
If you missed the first opportunity back in December to visit
The Quaker School at Horsham for the admissions open house, you may want
to go on Tuesday, January 13th, at 9 AM. The school is a Friends elementary
and middle school for children who learn differently. Call Bill Hallowell

FCNL Letter Writing Campaign
Philadelphia Yearly Meeting and Baltimore Yearly Meeting
are laying down their joint letter-writing campaign after many years. That
campaign relied heavily on information from FCNL. FCNL will now serve Friends
here and all over the country. Check at your meeting to see if your meeting
is participating in this important work. Letters and cards from lots of
Friends make a big impression when they hit a legislator’s desk. For information,

Conventional Arms
and Deadly Conflict
A discussion on Conventional Arms and Deadly Conflict is
scheduled for February 19, 1998, at 7 PM in the Game Room at Pennswood
Village. This is part of the Global Policy Project and its purpose is to
provide concerned citizens with the opportunity to propose ways to address
problems of arms control. For more information call Elizabeth Huberman

Teen Night at Wrightstown
Don’t forget to bring a friend, a snack (or $2) to the next
Teen Night on Saturday, January 17th, at 7:30!
PYM Women’s Committee
at Solebury
The PYM Women’s Committee will meet Jan 4th at Solebury Meeting
from 3-5 PM in the meetinghouse, followed by a shared potluck. Discussion
will include the Intergenerational Women’s Conference to be held at Burlington

Snippets
of News from the Quarter and Other Places
Kingdon Swayne, having written the histories of
George School and Friends Home, is now embarking on the history of Newtown
Friends School.
Helen Fields, Brandywine Regional Coordinator, is in great
need of a used washer and dryer. Helen moved to the area recently
from New Hampshire and has been on the job since September. Call her at

Peggy Morscheck informs us that the Quaker Information
Center’s web site is now up and running. Check it out at www.afsc.org/qic.htm.
Special thanks to Yardley Meeting Friends for a
wonderful Quarterly Meeting in November. Many, many Friends in the Quarter
and their children came for a Spirit-led day filled with song, T-shirts,
shed painting, good food, and a fine talk on George Fox by Janet Burkholder
and Sid Cadwallader.
Soft-cover copies of the new Faith & Practice
will be available soon for $6. The January 15th deadline has been extended
for Meetings which order in bulk (5 copies or more), at $3 per copy. Call

PYM has scheduled a week-long Young Friends program for
August, 1998, featuring the Leveners from England. It will be held
at the Burlington Conference Center and will focus on conflict resolution
through theater. Call 241-7171.
Chandler Hall will have another Youth Bereavement Camp
over the winter holiday. Call 860-4000 for more information.
Makefield Friends will host a Primary and Elementary
Religious Education Roundtable Discussion on February 28th, from 9
AM - noon. All interested Friends in the Quarter are encouraged to participate.
