Details About Past and Coming Events
Money vs. Wealth
The Environmental Working Group will host an "open meeting" on Saturday, November 1st at Arch Street from 9:30 AM-12:30 PM on "Money vs. Wealth." The presenter will be David Korten, author of When Corporations Rule the World. He will discuss "what citizens should know about the globalization and deregulation of corporations and finance." Panelists Zulene Mayfield, Chairperson for Chester Residents Concerned for Quality Living, and the Rev. J. Andy Smith, Director of Social and Ethical Responsibility in Investing, will join David Korten in considering how these developments are affecting our region. For more information call 609-261-8190.
Teen Night at Wrightstown
Don’t forget to gather a few of your friends for another evening of fun and games! Teen Night is on Saturday, Nov 22 from 7:30-10:30 PM. Bring some goodies to eat or $2.
Interfaith Housing Workday
High school Young Friends are needed for a workday at Interfaith Housing on Saturday, November 15th. We will meet at George School at 8:15 AM, drive down to the Interfaith Housing office and go from there to the site where the work is being done. Bring tools, lunch, warm clothes, gloves, and a giving spirit. Interfaith Housing relies on us each year to put in some time so that low-income families can have their own homes. Call Sandy for information: 860-9747.
A Wonderful Afternoon at Friends Home
Friends from all over the Quarter came to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Friends Home on October 5th. Bill Parry led the way with opening remarks. Three families, the Paxsons, Palmers, and Parrys, were honored with commemorative Mercer tile plaques on 3 buildings at the Home. The 100th anniversary certificate was signed by over 125 guests. Several private rooms and apartments were available for viewing. It was a splendid afternoon!
Basic Conflict Resolution at Peace Centers
The Bucks County Peace Centers are offering a Basic Conflict Resolution Workshop on Saturday, November 1st from 9 AM-1 PM. Participants will learn the skills of active listening, using "I" messages, problem solving, and other creative ways to respond to conflict. The workshop will be held at the Peace Centers, 102 West Maple Ave., Langhorne. The cost is $30. You must pre-register by calling the Peace Centers at 750-7220. This is a good opportunity for those who attended the Quarterly Meeting at Falls to extend their knowledge.
PYM Wants Our News!
If your meeting does not already send the newsletter to PYM, they wish you would. Judy Van Hoy reads them all! She copies articles which might be of interest to the staff and files them. Help spread the BQM word by putting Judy on your mailing list: PYM, 1515 Cherry, Phila., PA 19102.
Quaker School at Horsham Open House
The Quaker School at Horsham, which is a Friends elementary and middle school for children who learn differently, will hold an admissions open house on Tuesday, Dec. 9th from 9-11 AM. For more information, please contact William Hallowell. The Quaker School at Horsham is located at 318 Meetinghouse Rd., Horsham, PA. Phone: 215-674-2975; email: WHALLOWELL@aol.com; fax: 215-674-9913.
Nurturing the Spirit in Recovery
The Family Relations Committee of PYM would like to offer a new workshop, "Nurturing the Spirit in Recovery." This 7-week workshop will be led by Richard Squailia of Willistown Meeting. It is open to anyone who would like to enhance daily spiritual practice and reduce stress by learning to be less controlled by emotional and physical reactions. The program is designed to increase connectedness with the power to grow and to change and to heal. To learn more about this upcoming program call 610-648-0378.
White People Working on Racism
The Center for Change is holding a 3-day workshop, White People Working on Racism/Meeting the Shadow, from Friday through Sunday, November 14-16. The workshop will be held at Falls Meeting. The facilitator is Antje Mattheus who has worked for over 22 years on oppression and liberation issues. The workshop offers white people an opportunity to meet and learn about our shadow, the creation and development of racism in the US, and our role in it. By accepting that such racism exists in society and in us, we create a base for healing, balancing, and actions for change. The cost of the workshop is $225 including tuition, Saturday lunch and dinner, Sunday lunch, and all snacks. Call Susan Snipes-Wells at 849-1994 for more information.

On June 12-14, 1998 PYM will offer a weekend gathering entitled Companions Along the Way. This is a conference on Adult Religious Education for Quaker Spiritual Life and will take place at George School. Put this one on your calendar!

Anne Merrill of Southampton Meeting shook President Clinton’s hand when he and Hillary came to the church service at the Tabernacle in Martha’s Vineyard.

You might want to give thanks on Thanksgiving Day by worshipping at Pumstead. A meeting for worship is planned for 9:30 AM, followed by a potluck brunch. Call Beth Taylor at 822-2299 for more information.

Several First Day Schools have "taken to the road" and visited other meetings. Yardley Meeting’s Young Friends visited Makefield Meeting to see how their shed was constructed as they plan to build their own portable shed to be used for Meeting events.

Friends at Buckingham Meeting welcomed David Smith and Bethann Morgan after their six-month trek on the Appalachian Trail. A covered dish dinner and slide show of the trip made it a special evening.

You can order the current edition of the Guide to Quaker Services for the Aging by calling 1-800-220-0796, ext. 226.

The Coordinator occasionally learns of a used appliance looking for a new home. If you have something to offer, there are Friends out there who have needs. Call the Coordinator at 860-9747 if you want to give or receive.

Bryn Hammarstrom showed a retrospective of Lehigh Valley Meeting with his slide show of events dating from 1960 when the Meeting broke ground for the meetinghouse. Friends saw the evolution of the meetinghouse as well as the changes in clothing and Lehigh Valley members!

Friends at Makefield Meeting gave a house-warming shower for Anne Twining to make her new apartment feel homey.
