Grace for the 21st Century

Bless the unseen hands that bring us our daily food:
The black and brown hands of the steaming fields of South Florida,
The dirt-caked hands of Salinas and Castroville,
The hands of migrants living in the out-of-sight camps down dusty roads in New Jersey,
The injured hands of meat-packers in Iowa.

We thank you for this bounty.

"Food for thought" from Charles Woodford of Quakertown Meeting.

Clerk’s Corner

Dear Friends,

PYM will hold a Budget Conference on November 22nd to begin the budget process for the 1998-99 Fiscal Year. Representatives from BQM who attend the conference need to have a sense of unity and understanding as to the level of support we can reasonably commit to PYM. The next meeting of the BQM Budget & Nominating Committee is on November 1st. Monthly Meetings’ committee members or alternates should confirm their intentions to attend this meeting by calling Sandy Langhart at 860-9747. It would be helpful if there were a Minute from each Monthly Meeting by the next Quarterly Meeting at Yardley on November 16th, stating whether the Monthly Meeting feels that it can reasonably expect to maintain, increase or decrease the level of support that was pledged for the 97-98 fiscal year. Monthly Meetings might also cite specific questions, areas of concern about or support for issues to be addressed by PYM in formulating its next budget if they are important to the Meeting. Please make sure these matters are addressed within your Monthly Meeting to guide Bucks Quarter accordingly at the PYM budget conference. PYM is asking for the input and involvement of Friends to better serve the Monthly and Quarterly Meetings. - - Janet Braker, Clerk

Bristol Meeting thanks Janet Braker for the books and Roz and Al Hernandez for the computer they donated to the mentoring program that is starting up soon. If you have materials which might be useful, call Sandy at 860-9747 and she will pick them up from you and get them to Bristol.

Quakertown Meeting will present "A Clear Leading," written and performed by Rich Swingle, on Sunday, October 26th, at 3:30 PM. This is a one-man play based on an incident in the life of John Woolman. "A Clear Leading" is appropriate for Friends of all ages. Refreshments will be served after the play. For information call Conny Stover at 908-782-0953.

Lehigh Valley Meeting is sponsoring Milot Rukiqi, a Bosnian student who will begin his studies at Allentown College in September. This project came to Lehigh Valley via the Fellowship of Reconciliation.

Barbara Snipes would like Friends to know that she is at home recovering from spinal surgery. She has non-Hodgkins lymphoma which will be treated with chemotherapy. She particularly likes prayers and healing groups.

Did Friends see the "Quaker Meetings in Bucks County" ad in the Core Creek International Day Festival section of the locals papers in September? It was made possible by an anonymous donor from Bucks Quarter.

Don’t miss the "Kid to Kid" exhibit at the Please Touch Museum beginning on October 3rd. It highlights art work created by Vietnamese children and their George School visitors. For more information call Maureen Lloyd-Kirby at 428-1099.
