Lehigh Valley Meeting celebrated the opening of their new addition on Sunday, April 27th. Friends and friends of the Meeting from near and far gathered for worship, which was followed by a program in the new space. After lunch Friends joined hands and, led by the oldest member of the meeting and the youngest member who could walk, went outside and encircled the meetinghouse with a chain made up of Friends and visitors, some one hundred in all! Celebration concluded with Meeting for Worship.
Chandler Hall’s Home Health Care
As Friends probably know, Chandler Hall has several corporations under its umbrella. One of those is the Chandler Hall Hospice/Home Health Agency. The Home Health Agency serves the wider community. It includes in-home hospice patients, in-home rehab patients, health care at home, and persons interested in the Wellness model of Home Health Care. One community which the Wellness Program serves is a group of older Quakers and non-Quakers living at Westwyk, an intergenerational condominium community in Doylestown. Chandler Hall provides an exercise program 3 days a week at Westwyk. A nurse practitioner is available for weekly health screenings and to facilitate a discussion group on topics of nutrition, spirituality, creativity and life goals for the future.
Anne Feaster, Director of Home Health Care at Chandler Hall, says that the program is flexible and can be designed to provide services for health/wellness, community, or home focus. Anne is willing to visit monthly meetings and discuss the programs and answer questions. For information on all aspects of the Home Health Agency, call Anne at 860-4000, ext. 9237.
The agenda and registration materials for Philadelphia Yearly Meeting at Allentown College have been mailed to all Friends in PYM. The dates are July 15th-20th. The brochure covers all details of the programs and workshops, sleeping arrangements and meals, children and Young Friends’ activities. The cost for the event is based on number of meals eaten plus overnights. Friends may also commute, camp out, or stay in local motels. Financial assistance for travel and/or staying at residential Yearly Meeting is available. If you did not get an agenda and registration form, call the Coordinator at 860-9747 or PYM at 1-800-220-0796, ext. 7201. If you have questions about PYM at Allentown, get in touch with someone who went in 1995. We all had a splendid time!

Snippets of News from the Quarter and Other Places
Sid Cadwallader of Yardley Meeting was honored at this year’s Alumni Weekend at George School. Among his many contributions are his 15 years of service as the attorney for the George School Committee, co-chair of the Annual Fund, and his work guiding George School and the Pennswood board through the processes of land sale, planning and construction leading to the opening of Pennswood in 1980.
Schuylkill Meeting has joined in a concern first felt by children & teachers of the their First Day School to promote world peace by calling for a world-wide armistice to take place during the Olympic Games, beginning in the year 2000. This would restore an ancient Greek tradition in which war ceased during the athletes’ travel times and the games.
Doylestown Meeting’s First Day School enjoys a monthly get-together of parents and children at someone’s house at the rise of meeting. They gather for lunch and an activity for children afterwards. It helps parents and kids get to know one another better while having a good time.
Newtown Friends School has its new Pre-Kindergarten class up and running happily. Pre-K students enjoy trips such as a visit to Styer’s Orchard, Friday morning sing-outs and special assemblies with Newtown Friends School students, and working with 4th-grade "pals."
Quakertown Meeting’s Spring Festival will be on Saturday, June 28th, including games, outreach information, food, historical presentations, and other activities. Also, Quakertown’s new book group got started in April and meets monthly!
Pendle Hill is offering Inquirers’ Weekend on July 11-13. Mickey Edgerton and Jonathan Vogel-Borne will lead the workshop. The cost is $150 for a double room and $175 for a single. Call Shirley Dodson at 1-800-220-0796, ext. 7182.
Summer Midweek Meetings for Worship will be held at Middletown Meeting on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM. Makefield also holds a midweek Meeting for Worship on Thursdays at 7:00 PM year-round. Friends in the Quarter are invited.
