- Thom Jeavons' Visit to Quarterly Meeting at
Quakertown
- Thom Jeavons, General Secretary of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting,
visited Bucks Quarterly Meeting at Quakertown on November 17th.
It was a glorious sunny day for Friends to meet with Thom Jeavons
and hear his views. He first talked about himself and his family,
his long experience of Friends, and his expertise in non-profit
organizations. He described Philadelphia Yearly Meeting as: 1)
an annual gathering, 2) an administrative structure that supports
monthly meetings and serves as a public voice for Friends, and
3) a larger faith community of some 12,000 people in 104 monthly
meetings. All three now face the major issue of what we actually
hold in common, a concern shared by many monthly meetings.
-
- Thom noted that those meetings which are thriving, growing,
and doing well share three qualities: visibility in their communities,
a welcoming environment, and a religious community that provides
religious education for children, that says what it believes,
and that embraces diversity. A question and answer period followed.
Thom responded to many Friends in the Quarter as they voiced their
concerns and hopes for the future.
- Teen Night at Wrightstown
- Come to Wrightstown Meeting and join with other young Friends
(and some non-Friends) for an evening of games, music, snacks,
and chatter. Bring your own non-Friend. The fun begins at 7:30
PM and ends at 10:30 PM. A snack to share and $1 to help cover
costs are the price of admission. Information? Call Sandy at 860-9747.
- Mediation Training at Friends
- Center Once again, Friends Conflict Resolution Programs is
offering Mediation Training to interested Friends on Wed-Fri,
February 5th-7th. This mediation training is helpful to anyone
who would like to cope better with conflict in business, nonprofits,
churches, families, school, and neighborhoods. The training team
is Caroline Packard and Keelin Barry, who both bring a great deal
of experience to the program. The cost is $350 and check should
be made payable to PYM- FCRP, and sent to 1515 Cherry St., Philadelphia,
PA 19102. Information: 241-7029.
