- Thank You to George School Quarterly
Meeting Committee
- The Quarterly Meeting at George School was a lively and Spirit-led
day for all age groups. Some went on a canoe trip, others had
a sweat lodge and enjoyed a workshop with Allen Nelson, some played
basketball and heard stories, made books and went swimming. Some
sang their hearts out, others had a quiet time with Walt Whitman,
some discussed vegetarianism, others Jesus and the Testimonies.
Most attended the business meeting and the session on Friends
education. Friends from many meetings gave generously of their
time leading workshops for young and old, being panelists at the
education session, performing in "Quaker Follies," and
providing good experiences for Middle School and Young Friends.
If you know someone on the committee which worked so hard to organize
the day, please thank him or her .

- Bucks Quarter's Grange Fair Outreach
Tent
- Through the efforts of many Friends in the Quarter, the first
outreach tent at the Middletown Grange Fair was a great success.
Some 1000 non-Friends took notice and/or browsed. Thanks to all
who greeted our visitors, to meetings, facilities, and schools
who sent literature for our tables and displays, to Buckingham
Friends School and the Makefield Quilting group for the loan of
their quilts, and to Ann D'Silva for painting all those children's
faces.
- PYM's Criminal Justice Committee Presents Workshop
- "Restorative Justice An Update on the State of the Field"
is the title of the seminar and workshop to be presented by PYM's
Criminal Justice Committee on Friday, October 18th, at Birmingham
Meeting near West Chester, PA. Restorative Justice offers a very
different approach to crime by asking "Who has been injured?
How can they be healed?" Paul McCold, a Quaker criminologist
and restorative justice scholar, will lead the program. The seminar
is free and child care is available. Call Judy Butler at 302-529-7677
for more information.
-
- Arthur Clark, of the PYM Criminal Justice Committee, recently
brought this issue before the Peace and Service Committee of Bucks
Quarterly Meeting for its consideration. Arthur said, "The
basic principles of Restorative Justice are to hold the offender
responsible for his/her actions, allow the offender(s) to make
restitution to the victim on several levels, discover what the
community's responsibilities are toward both the offender and
the victim, and bring offender and victim together as part of
the closure." Members of the Peace and Service will take
the issue to the monthly meetings for their discernment, as well
as look into the possibilities for service to the prison system
in Bucks County.

-
