- Bucks Quarter Singing Group Up and
Running (oops! Singing)
- Friends in Bucks Quarter met on June 18th and July 17th at
Makefield meetinghouse to enjoy two evenings of singing. The singing
group is open to everyone in the Quarter and is not a formal event.
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 14th, at 7:30 at
Makefield.
- BQM's Outreach Exhibit at the Middletown
Grange Fair
- Friends are invited to visit and/or help at BQM's tent at
the Middletown Grange Fair on August 15th, 16th, and 17th from
10:00 AM to 11:00 PM. The colorful quilts of the Makefield Meeting
quilters and Ann D'Silva's face-painting for kids should catch
the attention of those passing by. The tent will contain chairs
and ice water for the tired and thirsty. There will be a map showing
the locations of meetings in Bucks Quarter. The Quarter will provide
a display of outreach materials, printed matter from our schools
and institutions, and old photos, flyers, and newsletters. Monthly
meetings are sending their outreach materials to the Coordinator
to display at the Grange Fair. It is hoped that our presence will
assure visitors that Quakers are alive and well and living in
their midst, with their hearts and doors open to new-comers.
- Midweek Meetings for Worship
- For Friends who often miss First Day worship during the summer
months, Middletown Meeting offers meeting for worship on Wednesday
evenings at 7:30 PM, and Makefield holds meeting for worship on
Thursdays at 7:30 PM on a year-round basis.
- Bucks Quarter on the World Wide Web
- Bucks Quarterly Meeting now has a page on the World Wide Web,
thanks to the efforts of Bill Sharp and Dave Comley, both of Wrightstown
Meeting, and Bill Daly of Middletown Meeting. The web page offers
information on Quakers and Quakerism, as well as a separate screen
for each meeting in the Quarter with a picture, information about
the meeting, and the location of the meetinghouse as well as the
time for meeting for worship. In addition, our newsletter, Quakerphrenalia,
is available, along with updates that were too late for the publication
deadline. If you have access to a computer with web browser capability,
the address is: http://www.libertynet.org/~bucksqtr.
Suggestions are welcomed by the coordinator.
- Hiroshima/Nagasaki Commemoration
- Friends from the Quarter are again invited to attend the Hiroshima/Nagaskai
Commemoration at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Doylestown.
Our contribution to the program will be an except from the "Statement
on Peace" from New Zealand Yearly Meeting read by Irene Fisher,
David and Marian Hepburn, and Mary Fuges. The commemoration begins
at 7:00 PM.
- BQM Worship & Ministry Committee
Meeting
- The Worship and Ministry Committee of Bucks Quarter will meet
at Bristol Meeting on Friday, August 16th, at 6:00 PM. All Friends
are invited for a covered dish dinner followed by worship.
- Quakerism 101 and 201 Offered
in October-November
- This is a reminder to Friends that Quakerism 101 and 201 will
again be offered in Bucks Quarter this Fall. The dates are Sunday
evenings Oct. 13, 20, 27, and Nov. 3, 10, 17. Howard Cell will
teach Q101 and Charlie Peterson Q201. Save the dates on your calendar!
Details will follow.
- Yardley Meeting's Flea Market
- Yardley Meeting survived the flood! Thanks to the many Friends
from throughout the Quarter who helped clean benches, dry out
cushions, mop floors, remove the silt from the yard and sent donations.
In spite of the set-back Yardley Meeting will still hold its annual
flea market on Saturday, September 7th, from 8AM-3 PM. The rain
date will be the following Saturday.
